Personal information protection policy

With a full understanding of the intent of the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (hereinafter referred to as the “Personal Information Protection Law”) which was enforced on April 1, 2006, Yamada Denki Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Yamada Denki”), as a business operator handling personal information as provided in said law, has prepared the following policy concerning the protection of personal information so that customers can shop with us with a peace of mind through our efforts in protecting the personal information of our customers.
In addition, these policies shall be governed by the law of Japan.

1 Basic stance

Yamada Denki aims to be a company that is trusted and loved by its customers, and our first consideration is to focus on compliance and corporate ethics. With the development of an advanced information and telecommunications society, we also consider that we must shift our focus on the reality that as personal information becomes more useful in society, many people’s personal information is at risk.
We will therefore comply with the following and strive to understand and realize, at the highest level, the Personal Information Protection Law, all related laws and regulations, and the intentions of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry’s “Guideline Concerning the Act on Protection of Personal Information Relating to Economy and Industry”.

2 Acquisition and use

  • ○ Yamada Denki always utilizes legitimate methods when acquiring the personal information of customers.
  • ○ The purpose of use of the personal information of Yamada Denki’s customer’s is a follows.
    1. (1) To provide satisfactory service to customers with respect to our business.
      This includes the following.

      1. 1 To provide answers and forward materials when receiving inquiry from customers.
      2. 2 For registering to membership services including point cards and mail magazines.
      3. 3 To introduce sales, products, and services.
      4. 4 To accept orders for repairs, products, and accessories.
      5. 5 To perform delivery, installation, and other work for products which have been purchased.
      6. 6 To provide maintenance services, sign customers to product warranties, and provide brokerage.
      7. 7 To introduce all forms of insurance.
      8. 8 To collect opinions (surveys, etc.) regarding our services.
      9. 9 To prepare statistical materials including usage trends of services.
      10. 10 For any other business that we judge will contribute to improving our services for customers.
    2. (2) To carry out all forms of necessary business management.
    3. (3) For third party provision or joint use within the scope necessary in accordance with 4 and 5 below.
    4. (4) For business incidental to all purposes listed above.
  • ○ Yamada Denki does not handle personal information for any purposes that exceed the scope necessary to achieve the purpose of use disclosed to customers.

3 Proper and safe management

  • ○ Yamada Denki safely manages personal data and properly supervises its employees and parties to whom its business is commissioned in order to prevent the leaking, destruction, or damage of customer’s personal information.
    In particular, we thoroughly educate employees, maintain a mutual surveillance, and implement security systems.
  • ○ Yamada Denki endeavors to ensure that personal data is consistently accurate and up-to-date within the scope necessary to achieve its purpose of use.

4 Provision to third parties

  • ○ Except in the following cases, Yamada Denki does not provide personal data to third parties unless a customer has given their consent or it is necessary in order to perform business that a customer has requested.
    1. (1) When providing the whole or a portion of Yamada Denki’s business to a party to whom its business is commissioned
    2. (2) When providing to service providers who supply products or services relating to business, including Yamada Denki’s store, website, and shopping mall
    3. (3) When deemed necessary by laws and regulations
    4. (4) When required to do so in order to protect a person’s life, physical well-being, or assets, and obtaining consent is difficult
    5. (5) When especially required in order to improve public health or promote the healthy development of children, and obtaining consent is difficult
    6. (6) When a national institution, local public body, or person who has been entrusted as such is required to cooperate in carrying out business as stipulated by laws and regulations, and there is risk that the performance of said business could be obstructed due to obtaining consent
    7. (7) When providing personal information as described in 5(2) below to Yamada Denki group companies and alliance companies (including those stipulated in 5(3) below) through writing or electronic records within the scope of the purpose of use (however, provision will be suspended when a customer has made such a request in accordance with 6 below)

5 Joint use

  • ○ Yamada Denki may share the personal information of customers within the scope provided below.
    1. (1) Purpose of use
      The same shall apply as above in regards to the business of our group companies and alliance companies as provided below
    2. (2) Scope of personal information
      Information within the scope necessary in order to achieve purpose of use, including addresses, names, mail addresses, telephone numbers, points balance, and purchase history
    3. (3) Scope of joint users
      Best Denki Co., Ltd., Yamada Financial Co., Ltd., SXL Co., Ltd., and any other group companies such as subsidiaries, affiliated companies, and equity-method affiliates, or any other companies with a business alliance relationship and are specified separately.
      Furthermore, revisions regarding the handling of joint use will be publicized in advance.
    4. (4) Management supervisor for personal information
      Yamada Denki Co., Ltd. (the counter shall be as written in 6 below)

6 Requests for disclosure from customers

  • ○ In the case where a customer has requested that personal information maintained by Yamada Denki be disclosed, revised, appended, deleted, suspended from use, suspended from provision to a third party, or erased (hereinafter referred to as “Disclosure”), we shall, as a general rule, immediately comply.

    However, if there is risk of damage to the interests of the customer or a third party, risk of significant obstruction in the performance of Yamada Denki’s business, or potential breach of other laws and regulations, Yamada Denki unfortunately must refrain from total or partial Disclosure.
